Just as Joseph Wright was spurred on by the industrial Revolution 125 years ago, so too are we – Talk Dialect – by the advent of the Internet and AI today.
The linguistic landscape of the UK is a beautiful, if somewhat patchwork, tapestry of regional quirks, and finally, Talk Dialect is giving us all the one centralised digital home it deserves.
What we are doing:
- Started the first English digital dialect community on 23rd April 2026.
- Aiming to collect 1 million unique dialect words.
- Making unique people-powered living dictionaries.
- Gathering data to plot never before seen live word maps.
- Begun recruiting a team of crack and elite Dialect Detectives to help speed up reaching our 1M word goal.
Hosted at talkdialect.co.uk, we are not just a list of words in alphabetical order, we are providing the living layer between traditional dictionaries, academics and linguists to help us all reach, record and revitalise all our favourite most-loved words before they are lost forever.
